Four Ounces Update - December 2, 2008

Is Karo Next?

The UFC has shown in the last few weeks that they have no problem cutting a guy if he isn't performing to the standard the UFC thinks they should be at. Fabricio Werdum was the highest-profile cut, but Sokoudjou, Jorge Gurgel, Marcus Aurelio and Jason Lambert were also dumped. All of these guys made a fair amount of money, and none had lived up to their potential. So, who's next?

I know that Karo Parisyan might seem like a ridiculous choice at first glance, but hear me out. In fact, let's get the arguments against my case out of the way. Karo's 8-3 in the UFC. He just signed a new 8 fight deal, according to him. He's had some exciting fights. He has helped prove that judo has its place in MMA. He's controversial and quotable. He's still in the top 10 at welterweight. He brings a sizeable Armenian audience to the UFC. There's no reason at all to cut him, right?

Fighter A-Z: Bao Quach

Bao Quach seemed to be at a crossroads. After a loss to Rumina Sato in mid-2004, Quach's record dropped to a disappointing 6-7. Quach had to figure out whether he had it in himself to be an elite fighter or not. He decided to push on, and his hard work has ended up paying off. He came back 18 months later and went to a draw with the tough (and current #5 FW in the world) Hatsu Hioki. He was then defeated by Wagnney Fabiano, but has since gone on to win 9 fights in a row, and is the current ICON Sport 140lb champion.
