Apply For A Site
A few things to consider before you apply:
We want to publish writers and artists with specific and interesting experiences and/or compelling voices. This is NOT another avenue for people who like to hear themselves speak. That's what Blogspot and Livejournal are for.
If you are unsure what this means, go look at the current Rudius Media line-up on the front page again. Notice how everyone currently on the roster has a very interesting job (e.g., a special ed teacher, a green beret, a prison guard, a group home counselor), a great concept that they execute well (e.g., an investigator reporter, a hilarious cartoonist) or a unique voice and very compelling stories (TuckerMax.com, TheBunnyBlog.com, DrunkRex.com).
If, in the field below that says "The general subject(s) you want to write about," you write something like "Whatever comes to mind," or "random rantz n stuff," then your submission is going to suck. Don't waste our time.
At the same time, please don't be deterred from submitting if you think you might have something worth reading. It didn't occur to Riti Sped that people might want to read about the day to day life of a special education teacher, but her life became one of the most famous sites in the internet. Ironically, it's usually the people with the most to say that don't realize people might be interested in reading about their life.
Rules for submission:
- If you have a text-based site in mind, make sure you cut and paste AT LEAST two sample entries. You can put up a maximum of four entries.
- A sample text entry should be an example of what you would post on your site. For instance, Tard Blog is a blog about a teacher's experiences in a special ed classroom, so her samples could look like this and this.
- DO NOT just tell us what you want to write about--show us. That is why they are called "sample entries," not "places for you to ramble endlessly about what you want to write about, without providing an example."
- Sample entries need not be long, they just need to be representative of what you can and would be writing/producing for your site.
- You MUST cut and paste your text into the text boxes. DO NOT ATTACH FILES, they will NOT be opened.
- Even though content counts more than spelling, grammar or structure, if we can't read your stuff because it is so poorly constructed, then we can't tell if there is any potential there. We are taking the time to read your submission, take the time to make it readable.
- For a cartoon or picture-based site, attach three jpg or gif examples in the appropriate boxes at the bottom.
- If your art can't be submitted via this form, go to the Contact Page, and explain what the problem is.
- We will consider any sort of art that can be transferred over the internet, EXCEPT music. We love music but it's just not our gig. Try MySpace.
- You don't have to think up a name for your potential site, but it helps us. If you do pick one and it sucks, don't worry. You aren't stuck with it, you can change later.
- All submissions must be original material and property of the submitter. Don't steal or copy someone else's shit. This should be obvious.
- If you already have a site up and want us to consider that, link it in the "Tentative Name for Site" section, and ALSO post your 2-4 best entries in the Sample Entries sections below.
- It can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks for the editorial board to evaluate your material and make a decision.
- If we opt against offering you a site, you will get a short email thanking you for submitting and telling you that we are passing.
- If we pass, please do not take this as the definitive word on your potential. Every artist gets rejected at some point in their career, don't be discouraged. There are plenty of other ways to get published on the internet, try those.
- If we see potential, Executive Editor Donika Miller will email you and give you further instructions. Usually, this will entail you writing 2-3 more sample entries, and editing the 2-4 pieces you have already submitted. At some point, a decision will be made whether or not to proceed.
- If the decision is to go ahead, the author will continue to work with Donika Miller on more material while also working with Erin Tyler to pick a name, a color scheme, and a logo for the new site. The author will also execute all appropriate legal documents with regard to the site.
- When everything is ready, the site is launched.
If you add more than one picture, add a large file or you have a slow connection, it may take a little while to upload. Be patient.
